Horst Bergmann (wrestler)

Horst Bergmann (born November 24, 1937 in Neusalz ; † September 10, 2016 ) was a German wrestler .

He grew up in Lichtenfels , joined the AC Lichtenfels and learned wrestling from Valentin Kohmann . At the age of 20 he had already reached the top German class when he took second place at the German championships in freestyle, lightweight, behind Karl Scherm , Neuaubing in 1957 . In 1960 he was the first German champion in lightweight, freestyle, ahead of Gottlieb Neumair , Neuaubing and Klaus Rost , Witten. He won his second German championship title in 1965, again in the lightweight, freestyle, ahead of Peter Zeiher, Brötzingen and Edmund Seger from Freiburg im Breisgau. Bergmann was also German runner-up four times.

He achieved his greatest sporting success in 1960 when he prevailed against Klaus Rost and Adolf Franke , Leipzig, in the qualification for the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome in the lightweight, freestyle . In the Olympic tournament he lost to Nizzola, Italy and Enju Waltschew Dimow , Bulgaria and remained unplaced.

Horst Bergmann remained active in team fights for his club until the mid-1970s, after which he was a successful coach in the youth field for many years. In his private life, he built up a beverage trade.
