Horst Bourmer

Horst Reiner Bourmer (born August 17, 1920 in Koblenz ; † May 20, 2001 in Cologne ) was a German surgeon and medical professional .

Career

Born in Koblenz as the son of a veterinarian, Horst Reiner Bourmer attended school in Frankfurt / Main and Cologne. After graduating from high school in 1938, he studied medicine in Berlin, Kiel, Cologne, Heidelberg and Tübingen, interrupted by war missions. He passed the state examination in 1944 , was then employed as a marine medical officer in the naval hospital and as a submarine doctor, and was taken prisoner by the British.

Bourmer was promoted to Dr. med. PhD . He then worked clinically at the II. Medical University Clinic Hamburg-Eppendorf, at the State Hospital Sanderbusch / Oldenburg, at the Surgical University Clinic Cologne-Lindenthal and at the II. Surgical University Clinic of the Cologne-Merheim Municipal Hospitals with further training as a doctor for surgery, urology and Anesthesia. From 1957 to 1961 he worked as a senior physician in Cologne-Merheim before he was appointed chief physician at the Cologne-Worringen Municipal Hospital in 1961, where he worked until the end of 1981.

In addition, he held a leading position in the committees and associations of medical self-administration. From 1961 to 1968 he was the second chairman of the Marburger Bund , 1972-1989 Chairman of Hartmann Federal from 1973 to 1978, vice president of the German Medical Association , 1978-1990 President of the Federal Association of German Medical Associations and 1981-1993 President of the Medical Association of North Rhine .

Bourmer was married to Almuth nee Meyer-Abich (1921-2016). He died in 2001 at the age of 80. The family grave is located in the Melaten cemetery in Cologne .
