Horst Burghardt

Horst Burghardt (born May 1, 1958 in Köppern ) is a Hessian politician ( Die Grünen ), mayor of the city of Friedrichsdorf and former member of the Hessian state parliament .

Life

Horst Burghardt studied biology and chemistry for a few semesters after graduating from high school, but did not take an exam. In 1974 he did an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk.

From 1985 Horst Burghardt worked in the office of Environment Minister Joschka Fischer . On April 8, 1991, Burghardt replaced Fischer (who resigned his mandate after he had again become a minister) in the state parliament. In the state elections in Hesse in 1995 , he was re-elected to the state parliament. In the state parliament he was a member of the budget and environment committee and chairman of the interior and an investigation committee. He ran for election in the constituency of Hochtaunus I , but was elected from his party's state list.

He left the state parliament on September 1, 1997, after he had been elected mayor of Friedrichsdorf. He had been a member of the city council since 1985. The election caused a national sensation, as he was one of the first Greens to be elected mayor of a Hessian municipality in a direct election. In 2003, 2009 and again in 2015 he was confirmed in office by the citizens.
