Horst Diere

Horst Diere (* 1928 in Herzberg (Elster) ) was a leading history methodologist in the GDR until 1990 .

After studying history at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Horst Diere received his doctorate in 1961 on a school history topic from the Weimar Republic . Continuing to work in Halle, he completed his habilitation in 1976 with a thesis on the history of schools at the beginning of the Nazi dictatorship . In Halle, he played a leading role in the training of history teachers and headed the Central Expert Commission on Methodology of History Teaching at the Ministry of Popular Education to the end. Therefore, he was also responsible for the methodological assessment of the last official history book published by Volk und Wissen . In October 1989 in Ludwigsburg, at the first German-German meeting of the Conference on History Didactics, he gave a lecture on history teaching in the GDR that was uncritical according to Schneider. Diere was also supervised by the first democratic state government in Saxony-Anhalt with the publication of the new framework guidelines .
