Horst Gabriel (choir producer)

Horst Gabriel (born November 9, 1922 in Breslau ; † December 7, 2007 Weiden in the Upper Palatinate ) was a German music and home nurse who made a special contribution to the field of amateur choirs .

Act

Gabriel gained his first experience with ensemble singing during his school days in the choir of the grammar school in Breslau. During the Second World War he was used for military service and was taken prisoner of war. In 1946 he came to Rothenstadt in the Upper Palatinate, which in 1978 to Weiden id OPf. was incorporated. Here he worked full-time as a federal railway official until his retirement in 1985 . He was a member of the Transnet railway workers' union .

Besides and after his retirement, Gabriel devoted himself intensively to maintaining regional music and homeland. From 1946 he sang in various choirs, including in the Weiden Chamber Choir, which Karl Heinz Malzer had founded, and in the Weiden singers' association, where he was also a board member and event organizer. From 1981 he was 1st chairman of the Oberpfälzer Choirs Association, which was founded in 1980, to which several (district) associations of choral music in the Upper Palatinate came together and to which around 100 choirs and ensembles belong, as well as chairman of the Northern Upper Palatinate Singers' Circle (SK Nord-Oberpfalz ) in the Franconian Singers Association (FSB). He also sat on the General Committee (GA) of the FSB. From 1984 he was Vice President of the Upper Palatinate Cultural Association (OKB).

Honors

  • 1987: Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon for his commitment in the working group of 154 Upper Palatinate Choirs and his commitment as Vice President of the Upper Palatinate Cultural Association
  • 1990: Nordgaupreis of the Oberpfälzer Kulturbund in the category “Heimatpflege” for his services especially in the field of amateur choirs in the Upper Palatinate
  • 1993: Honorary chairmanship of the Northern Upper Palatinate Singers' Circle
  • Honorary membership of the Franconian Singers' Association
  • 2001: Silver badge of honor from the home ring Weiden id OPf.
