Horst Gruner

Horst Gruner (* 1959 in Kilianstädten ) is a German diplomat . He has been Ambassador to Sierra Leone since September 2018 .

Life

After graduating from high school, Gruner studied geography and economics at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main from 1981 to 1988 . In 1984/85 he took part in a study exchange program in geography at Trenton State College New Jersey, USA, and graduated in 1988 with an M.Sc in geography. Before joining the Foreign Service in 1989 , he studied for a year at the Institute d'études politiques de Paris .

career

After completing the preparatory service for the higher foreign service and an assignment in the Foreign Office , the first foreign assignments followed at the embassies in Pnom Penh (1992-1993) and Dar es Salaam (1993-1996). From 1996 to 2000 Gruner worked in the Foreign Office and in 2000 went to the Embassy in Algiers . He stayed there until 2003 and then worked in the Foreign Office before being appointed Deputy Head of the Embassy in Yaounde ( Cameroon ) in 2006. In 2010 he moved to Malabo ( Equatorial Guinea ), where he provisionally the task of to 2011 Chargé perceived. From 2011 to 2013 he was deputy head of the embassy in Kinshasa .

From 2013 to 2018, Gruner worked in the Foreign Office in the Africa department. He has been the ambassador in Freetown ( Sierra Leone ) since September 2018 .
