Horst Holsten

Horst Holsten (born January 8, 1940 in Otterstedt ; † April 21, 2013 ibid) was a German aerospace engineer .

Life

Holsten studied mechanical engineering and started working as an engine designer at ERNO Raumfahrttechnik in 1964 . After collaboration on the program of the European launch vehicle he was from 1974 to 1986 in Paris and Kourou with development and launch of the Ariane busy missiles. Then, until his retirement in 2005, he was the director for the Ariane 5 program in Bremen, appointed by EADS (European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company) . Until his death he worked as a consultant for EADS Astrium . He was also called "Father of Ariane" or "Mr. Ariane “.

Holsten was married and had two children.
