Textbook author

In addition to his practice, he appeared as a specialist book author. One of his main works is his eye atlas: The photographed fundus - atlas with diagnostic and therapeutic information (1986). It shows retinal diseases photographed by Huismans. The atlas was translated into English in 1990 and into Chinese in 1996.

In his monograph Animal Parasites of the Human Eye - Tropical Diseases from 1979, he was able to prove with photo documentation that the dog roundworm larva "Toxocara canis" (Werner), which was previously completely underestimated in terms of its human pathogenicity, migrates into the human eye and also into the brain, which previously often led to a clinical misdiagnosis Epilepsy and ultimately exposed the patient to the emotional trauma of a hereditary disease .

His 1990 work, Doppler Sonography for Eye Diseases, Instructions for Ophthalmologists, Neurologists and Angiologists, examined a diagnostic method that was still largely unknown in the field of ophthalmology and has now become a standard work in ophthalmology. He succeeded in detecting with photo documentation of the central artery of the eye retina .
