Horst Köditz

Horst Köditz (born  May 6, 1931 in Jena ; †  April 16, 2017 in Magdeburg ) was a German pediatrician . From 1973 he worked as a professor of paediatrics and clinic director at the Medical Academy Magdeburg (MAM) and from 1993 to 1997 at its successor institution, the Medical Faculty of the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg . From 1990 to 1993 he was the last rector of MAM.

Life

Horst Köditz was born in Jena in 1931 and studied medicine at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena , where he received his doctorate in 1956 and habilitation ten years later . In 1962 he was recognized as a specialist in paediatrics. After working as a lecturer at the Jena University Children's Clinic from 1968 to 1973, he was appointed full professor of paediatrics and director of the children's clinic at the Magdeburg Medical Academy (MAM) in 1973 .

After the political change in the GDR , he took over the post of Rector of the MAM in 1990, which he held until the university was incorporated as a medical faculty in the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, which was newly founded in 1993. In 1993/1994 he worked there as prorector and until his retirement in 1997 as professor, as director of the clinic for general pediatrics and neonatology as well as managing director of the center for paediatrics, which had emerged from several clinics. In addition, he was the last President of the Society for Pediatrics of the GDR in 1990/1991 and President of the European Society for Pediatric Infectious Diseases (ESPID) in 1991.

From 1987 Horst Köditz was a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina . His research focused on infectious diseases in childhood and aspects of clinical immunology .
