Horst Löchel

Horst Löchel (born February 28, 1954 in Frankfurt am Main ) is professor of economics in Frankfurt am Main and Shanghai , China.

Life

After completing secondary school, Horst Löchel completed an apprenticeship as a banker at a savings bank (IHK qualification). He then moved first to a publishing house, then to an educational organization; He was responsible for accounting in both companies. In parallel to his professional activity, he attended evening grammar school, where he graduated with the second-best Abitur in Hesse in 1985. In 1986, Horst Löchel began studying economics at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main , where he received his doctorate summa cum laude in 1994 . Immediately afterwards, he accepted a professorship for economics at the Berlin University of Cooperative Education . In 1996 he moved to the Hochschule für Bankwirtschaft, a predecessor organization of the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management , where he still holds a professorship for economics.

In 2003 he set up the Shanghai International Banking and Finance Institute (SIBFI) in Shanghai as Chairman and Vice President for the Frankfurt School. In 2009 he founded the German Center of Banking and Finance, which the Frankfurt School and the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) jointly operate on the CEIBS campus in Shanghai. In addition, the CEIBS appointed him Associate Professor for Economics in 2009.

In summer 2011, Horst Löchel returned to the Frankfurt School. To this day he is active as a scientist at the CEIBS and the Frankfurt School. His research interests are the macroeconomics and the financial system of China as well as the development of the world economy and the global banking and financial system. In particular, Horst Löchel works on the European monetary union.

In the 1970s he was politically active and ran for the Communist Federation of West Germany (KBW) as a Bundestag candidate in 1976 and 1980 .
