Horst Löffler

Horst Löffler (born March 17, 1942 in Langenau ) is a former swimmer from the Federal Republic of Germany who won an Olympic silver medal in 1964 as a member of the all-German team .

Horst Löffler started for SSV Ulm in 1846 . In 1964 he was the third swimmer from the Federal Republic of Germany to qualify to participate in the Olympics over the 100-meter freestyle course. At the Olympic Games in Tokyo he swam 55.6 seconds in the run-up, in the semifinals he was eliminated in 56.0 seconds. With the 4 x 100 meter freestyle relay consisting of Horst Löffler, Frank Wiegand from Rostock, Uwe Jacobsen from Darmstadt and Hans-Joachim Klein from Darmstadt, he won the silver medal four seconds behind the relay from the United States . This relay was one of the few teams in the all-German team in which East and West German athletes competed together.

On December 11, 1964, he was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf for his sporting achievements.
