Horst Müller (born September 19, 1945 in Neustadt bei Coburg ) is a German sociologist , social computer scientist and social philosopher .

Life

Müller studied in Nuremberg and Erlangen and was born in 1982 at the University of Erlangen with a doctoral thesis “Practice and Intersubjectivity. Intellectual historical studies from a constitutional perspective " to the Dr. phil. PhD. From 1984 to 2010 he developed and maintained the municipal database information system of the City Guide Social Atlas of the City of Nuremberg. From 1985 to 1996 he played a key role in the Ernst Bloch Association .

His “Initiative for Practical Philosophy and Concrete Science” began in 2001. The associated website sees itself as a portal for the European line of thought of a philosophy of practice and provides extensive socially critical study material. In addition to national conferences, Müller organizes a local forum for political philosophy.

Research priorities

Müller's basic theoretical work aims to deepen the dialectical practical thinking in connection with the early writings of Marx , who conceived "Praxis" and "Understanding of Practice" as ontological and epistemological basic categories, and to deepen and epistemologically the practical theoretical approach of George Herbert Mead in terms of constitution and epistemology to bring to bear as a paradigm of a socially analytically efficient, "concrete" practice philosophy . The key term “contradicting practice” contains an objection to the communication- and subjectivity- oriented social theory and at the same time is intended to help reactivate the repressed legacy of dialectics . In contrast to critical theory , but also to capital and crisis theory, the practice concept requires a transgression of traditional modes of criticism in the sense of a "utopianism of political economy and social practice" .

The approach to this is sought in an expanded modeling of economic practice that goes beyond Marx's reproduction schemes. This also includes state finances, the problem of the “indebted tax state”, which Rudolf Goldscheid referred to, and the extensive area of public, social and cultural services. Müller, professionally in the field of urban research, was intensively involved with this. The analytics and the theoretical value concept of a “social economy as a system alternative” can be assigned to the field of a social economy . The whole design is intended to establish a possible social transformation . This idea is connected with the situation definition of the world system theory, according to which a historical transition period has opened with the crises at the beginning of the 21st century.
