Horst Nickel (born March 4, 1934 ) is a former German biathlete .
Horst Nickel was one of the most important protagonists in the early stages of biathlon in Germany. When the sport first became Olympic in 1960 , the athlete from ASK Vorwärts Oberhof in Squaw Valley and three of his club mates represented Germany as part of the all-German team . With eight shooting errors and thus 16 penalty minutes, Nickel was 17th out of 30 starters. The following year he took part in the 1961 Biathlon World Championships in Umeå and finished in 22nd place. In 1962 in Hämeenlinna a 17th place out of 40 participants was added.
