Horst Saalfrank

Horst Saalfrank (born August 9, 1922 - † July 27, 2014 ) was a German functionary of the Kulturbund der GDR , editor, local politician and local researcher .

Life

Horst Saalfrank was drafted into the Wehrmacht and took an active part in the Second World War. He was taken prisoner by the Soviets, from which he returned in 1949. After completing his professional qualification and acquiring Marxist-Leninist basics, he worked for the Marienberg District Council from 1954 to 1961, where he was initially a clerk for folk art and later head of the folk art cabinet. From 1962 he became district secretary of the Kulturbund for the democratic renewal of Germany in Marienberg. As such, since 1964 at the latest, he was the responsible editor of the monthly newspaper Our Home . He enriched this magazine not only with articles, but also with his own drawings. He later had a few drawings by him printed as artist cards, such as the view of the Olbernhau powder mill based on an old photo. In 1969 Horst Saalfrank expanded the editorial team to include Erich Gabriel, Alfred Kaden and Jürgen Oehmichen.

From 1962 to 1965 Horst Saalfrank completed a three-year correspondence course at the technical school for club leaders " Martin Andersen Nexö " in Siebeneichen Castle near Meißen .

On the occasion of the district work conference on September 18, 1965, Horst Saalfrank was unanimously re-elected as district secretary by the delegates of the German Cultural Association. In his hometown of Olbernhau he was a member of the city council in the mid-1960s.

After German reunification, Horst Saalfrank became a member of the Erzgebirgszweigverein Olbernhau, the Bergbrüderschaft Pobershau and the IG Bergbau und Mineralien Olbernhau, founded in 1996. He also worked in Olbernhau as one of the local chronicles.
