Horst Steible

Horst Steible (born April 30, 1941 in Lörrach ) is a German ancient orientalist .

Horst Steible studied Oriental and Islamic Studies at the University of Freiburg , the École du Louvre and the University of Heidelberg . In 1967 he was awarded a doctorate by Oluf Krückmann in Freiburg. phil. PhD . He then worked as an assistant at the University of Freiburg, completed his habilitation in 1972 and was then a university lecturer. In 1980 he was appointed C2 professor of sumerology . In 2006 he retired.

Steible mainly deals with Sumerian architectural inscriptions and dedicatory inscriptions, to which he devoted several essays and basic editions in addition to his qualification scripts.
