Horst Steinkühler

Horst Steinkühler (born October 17, 1936 in Oerlinghausen ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and former member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia .

Life and work

After attending elementary school , Steinkühler completed an apprenticeship as a weaver from 1951 to 1953 and then worked in this profession, from 1963 as an industrial foreman . From 1966 to 1980 he worked as a caretaker at the Städtisches Gymnasium Oerlinghausen (the later Niklas-Luhmann-Gymnasium ).

In 1957 Steinkühler joined the SPD. He was active in numerous party bodies, for example from 1981 to 1992 as chairman of the SPD sub-district Lippe . From 1951 to 1965 he was a member of the Textile Clothing Union and since 1966 a member of the Public Services, Transport and Traffic Union (from 2001 United Services Union ).

From May 29, 1980 to June 1, 2000 Horst Steinkühler was a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia. He was directly elected four times in a row in constituency 113 (Lippe I) . In the 10th and 11th electoral term he was deputy chairman of the Committee on Food and Animal Welfare and the Committee on Agriculture, Forests and Nature Conservation, and in the 12th electoral term as deputy chairman of the Petitions Committee .

From 1984 to 1996, with a brief interruption, he was a member of the city ​​council of Oerlinghausen and from 1984 to 1989 honorary mayor of the city.

Honors

In 1997 Horst Steinkühler was honored with the Federal Cross of Merit. The Horst Steinkühler Prize is named after him, which the SPD local association Oerlinghausen has awarded annually since 2000 to personalities who are distinguished by their outstanding social commitment.
