Horst Stowasser (born January 7, 1951 near Wilhelmshaven ; † August 30, 2009 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein ) was a German author and anarchist .

Life

Horst Stowasser spent parts of his youth in Argentina , where he went to school and came into contact with historical anarchism , became politically active and was arrested several times. After graduating from high school in Argentina, he began studying agriculture and Romance languages in Germany . He made several trips around the world and made contacts all over the world.

In Germany, he founded the anarchist documentation center in Wetzlar in 1971, which was later renamed AnArchiv and is now located in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse . It offers an extensive collection of documents, magazines and literature on anarchism with a German-language focus.

In the early 1980s he became known through the trial of the Tucholsky quote “ Soldiers are murderers ”.

In 1985 he published a book in which he proposed a new form of "project anarchism". This so-called Project A aimed to anchor libertarian projects in everyday life in a small town. This idea was put into practice from 1989. Implementation began in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse , where Stowasser himself worked, as well as in two other locations and abroad. After a crisis in the mid-1990s, a discussion process is currently underway to continue the project. Stowasser continued to live there and built up a residential and life project in which the AnArchiv should also be housed.

On August 30, 2009, he died in a Ludwigshafen hospital from complications from sepsis .

Think

Horst Stowasser advocated project-oriented work and did not represent any theoretical currents of anarchism. The "project anarchism" creates work and living opportunities in collective self-administration. In Neustadt, Stowasser's place of residence, there were 14 self-governing businesses before the project's crisis in the mid-1990s, around half of which have survived to this day and which are grouped together in the “Work of Self-Managed Projects and Facilities” (WESPE). "An attempt is made to build self-managed, decentralized, ecological and libertarian structures and to network them with one another that have an economic, cultural and political effect". The last project was the self-managed, cross - generational housing project Eilhardshof in the Mietshäuser Syndikat , which was to be managed collectively in common ownership as a monument and consisted of individual apartments in addition to common rooms. It was funded by direct loans but had to file for bankruptcy in August 2010.
