Horst Sturm
Horst Sturm (born May 13, 1923 in Geltow ; † December 22, 2015 in Berlin ) was a German photographer, long-time photo reporter for the General German News Service (ADN) and one of the most successful photo reporters in the GDR .
Life
Sturm received his first camera from his parents for his eleventh birthday and trained as a repro photographer after school .
During the Second World War he took part as a signal guest in a mine clearing division of the German Navy . After the crew of his boat refused to “ leave Bremerhaven ” shortly before the end of the war , they were all sentenced to death by the military court chaired by Hans Filbinger . Due to the Soviet veto after the end of the war, the penalties were reduced; Sturm had to serve a one-year prison sentence.

Helmut Schmidt , Erich Honecker , Gerald Ford and Bruno Kreisky sign the CSCE Final Document.
After his imprisonment, he returned to Berlin, where he began to photograph important events independently from 1949 and was able to publish some photographs in newspapers. He was discovered by Eugen Heilig's son Walter Heilig. Eugen Heilig was in charge of the Illus-Bilderdienst (Illus: illustration center for press, books and advertising ; later Zentrale Bildstelle , or Zentral-Bild GmbH for short ; merged with ADN). Sturm's photo became famous for the signing of the Helsinki Final Act with Erich Honecker , Helmut Schmidt , Gerald Ford and Bruno Kreisky .
In 1965 he co-founded the 21-person photographer group SIGNUM, which existed until 1969 . Sturm trained many photographers who affectionately called him "Captain".

In 1951, Sturm, who was already a photo reporter for the Illus-Bilderdienst, received the "For Excellent Achievement" award on the " Day of Activists ".
