Horst W. Hamacher

Horst Wilhelm Hamacher (born April 21, 1951 in Kerpen , North Rhine-Westphalia ) is a German mathematician specializing in business mathematics , especially optimization (mathematics) .

education and profession

After graduating from high school in Bergheim in 1970 , he studied mathematics , physics and economics at the University of Cologne . He finished his studies in 1977 with a diploma . He then did his doctorate in 1980 under Rainer Burkard at the University of Cologne with a thesis on combinatorial optimization . From 1977 to 1981 Horst Hamacher was an assistant at the Mathematical Institute at the University of Cologne , then Associate Professor at the University of Florida in Gainesville, USA. Since 1988 he has been a professor of business mathematics at the University of Kaiserslautern . There he was Vice President from 1994 to 1997. Between 2004 and 2010 he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Gesellschaft für Operations Research (GOR), in the last two years as Chairman.

Horst W. Hamacher is married and has four children and five grandchildren.
