Horst W. Wachsmuth (born July 26, 1933 - † September 8, 2008 ) was a German physicist .

Life

After High School on school Landshut in 1953 studied Wachsmuth physics at the Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich and laid there on July 9, 1962 his doctorate with a dissertation on The magnetic sector field between conical pole pieces and its application in a double focusing mass spectrometer from.

He then became an employee in the department for nuclear physical systems of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Meyrin , where he was involved in the manufacture of bubble chambers and in the experiments in the Gargamelle particle detector in Geneva . The neutrino research he carried out led to the confirmation of the quark model . In the mid-1970s he also held administrative functions at CERN and was a member of the Standing Advisory Committee and, in the early 1980s, chairman of the Appointment Committee.

In the last years of his work at CERN he worked as a team leader for the ALEPH detector project and worked as an employee and advisor for this project until his death.

In addition to his research work, he also dealt with questions of ecology and the intelligent use of energy . After conducting studies on human energy in 1975, he researched energy problems with other colleagues in the 1990s , which resulted in the 1996 study conference Economy - Energy - Entropy .
