Horst Welser

Horst Welser (born March 12, 1926 in Berlin ; † August 28, 2012 there ) was a German architect . He was a student of Hermann Henselmann and for many years was involved in the planning and execution of many institute buildings in the GDR as director of project planning at the German Academy of Sciences .

Life

Horst Welser was drafted into the Air Force towards the end of the Second World War . Because of his previous knowledge of gliding, he was trained as a fighter pilot on the Fw 190 . After being a prisoner of war, he returned to Berlin. He studied architecture at the Technical University. He finished his studies in 1951 as a graduate engineer.

He begins his professional career with Hermann Henselmann, who at the time was the head of a master workshop at the Bauakademie in Berlin (GDR). After three years of apprenticeship, he was delegated to North Korea , where he helped rebuild the city of HanHong .

After his return in 1956, he became an architect for the construction planning of the German Academy of Sciences, which he later took over as head. He held this position until 1992. The last two years were reserved for the development of his planning staff of around 100 employees.

As director of the planning team, Horst Welser was involved in many construction projects at the Academy of Sciences. But only for a few does he appear in the papers as draftsman, as he led the youngsters to their own work.
