Hosta (company name: HOSTA - Factory for Chocolate Specialties GmbH & Co. KG ) is a confectionery manufacturer based in the suburb of Randenweiler in the municipality of Stimpfach between Ellwangen and Crailsheim in East Württemberg . The name is derived from the initials of the company's founder Hermann Opferkuch and the letters S, T and A from the company headquarters in Stimpfach . The managing director is Laura Opferkuch, who took over the management in 2019 after the death of Hermann Opferkuch. The company is now run as a family business in the third generation.

history

The Hosta plant in Stimpfach

The family company was founded in 1949 by Hermann Opferkuch Senior with the marketing of O-Minz (sacrificial cake peppermint tablets). At that time, the delivery was still carried out with a backpack on the motorcycle. Between 1950 and 1955 the company was expanded into a modern industrial company. Over the years, Hosta has increasingly geared its production towards confectionery specialties, which are characterized by their eye-catching packaging design. In brand communication, Hosta prefers to pursue “innovative” campaign approaches (e.g. TV spots “Mr. Tom Professor” (1992), “Nippon Penguin Cartoon” (2005), testimonial jungle queen Evelyn Burdecki (2019)).
