location

The building with the address Wartburgallee 2 is in the immediate vicinity of the Nikolaitor at the junction of Wartburgallee from Bahnhofstrasse.

history

The Hotel Kaiserhof was built between 1895 and 1897 based on a design by the Berlin architect Otto March and opened on December 19, 1897 by the Eisenach restaurateur Gustaf Franke. It was one of the most modern hotels of its time, which already had a garage .

On January 19, 1901, the Association of German Motor Vehicle Industrialists, renamed the Association of the Automobile Industry in 1946, was founded in the Kaiserhof .

At the end of the Second World War , Eisenach's Mayor Rudolf Lotz held talks on April 5, 1945 in the Kaiserhof to hand over the city to the approaching US Army . The hotel subsequently served briefly as accommodation for the Russian command and was renamed Parkhotel in 1945 on the instructions of the Soviet occupying forces .

The owners were expropriated and the Park Hotel was placed under the trade organization . Several hotel rooms were used as offices, and structural deterioration began. At times, a building opposite was used as the hotel's bed block. It was not until 1969 that a comprehensive renovation took place on the occasion of the “900 years of Wartburg ” anniversary .

In 1991 the Treuhandanstalt sold the hotel to a private investor who began renovating the building in 1992 and reopened it in 1993 under the original name of Kaiserhof . In the same year, the hotel was expanded with an extension that closed the gap to the Nikolaitor .

Restaurants

In the basement of the east wing on Wartburgallee was the tunnel restaurant with wall paintings, which probably depict scenes from the Hörselberge near Eisenach . In the municipal gatehouse of the Nikolaitores built between 1910 and 1912 , Franke initially set up the "Turmschänke" wine bar on a lease basis , which still exists today. It was refurbished in 1994, now firmly connected to the hotel, and has a guest room in the former medieval city gate. The "Zwinger" restaurant was set up in the basement of the north wing in 1926 and reopened in 1993 as a cellar restaurant.

In the rooms now used as the breakfast room and lobby, two dance halls were housed during the GDR era .
