Wartburgallee
The Wartburgallee is a street in Eisenach in Thuringia . It is part of the federal highway 19 . The main road, lined with numerous architectural monuments, is the most important entry and exit road in Eisenach towards southern Thuringia . It is named after the Wartburg .

The Wartburgallee runs from the center of Eisenach, where it branches off from Bahnhofstrasse not far from the Nikolaitores , in a southerly direction through the Eisenacher Südviertel . Important junctions and crossings are the Dr. Moritz-Mitzenheim- Strasse, Johann-Sebastian-Bach- Strasse and Waisenstrasse. Immediately after the intersection with Kurstrasse and Marienstraße, Bundesstrasse 19 leaves Wartburgallee and continues along the Prinzenteich in Mariental , while Wartburgallee swings to the southwest and forms the driveway to Wartburg. At the southern end of the Wartburgallee is the donkey station , from which you can traditionally ride donkeys up to the Wartburg.
Architectural monuments and important structures along the road
The course of the road is characterized by a large number of architectural monuments. In addition to numerous listed villas in the Eisenacher Südviertel, the road from north to south includes:
- the Hotel Kaiserhof
- the city park
- the Eisenach brewery
- the Ernst-Abbe-Gymnasium
- the Hotel Glockenhof
- the KUNST pavilion , formerly the exhibition hall of the Eisenach automobile plant
- the Kartausgarten with foyer
Furthermore, there are or were several monuments in the vicinity of the street:
- first Eisenach medical monument (19th century)
- Bismarck Monument (1903–1963)
- Monument to the history of the German labor movement
- Carl Alexander Memorial
- Cranach monument
Not far from the southern end of Wartburgallee is the Elisabethbrunnen . At the entrance to the city park, a listed stairway connects Wartburgallee with Karlsplatz .
history
After the Second World War, the street, which until then had been called Karthäuserstraße , was renamed Stalinallee . It was not until 1962 that the street was given its current name. From 1897 to 1953 the first line of the Eisenach tram ran through Karthäuserstraße.
