The Hotham River is a river in the southwest of the Australian state of Western Australia .

It is one of the two headwaters of the Murray River .

geography

The river rises near Narrogin and flows north to Dryandra Woodland before heading west through Wandering and Boddington . Near Mount Saddleback , it joins the Williams River to form the Murray River.

history

In 1830 the explorer Thomas Bannister discovered this river, which was named by the Governor of Western Australia, James Stirling, after Vice Admiral Sir Henry Hotham .
