The Hotherturm

The Hotherbastei is located at the Nikolaizwinger below the Vogtshof on the northeast corner of the city wall of Görlitz . It is dated to the second half of the 13th century and represents the last remaining corner bastion in the city. The adjacent Nikolaizwinger was redesigned into a garden in 1953/54 by the garden architect Henry Kraft. The two-story tower rises above a three-quarter-round floor plan, the masonry of which is pierced by individual loopholes on the lower and the transition to the upper floor . The upper floor has several large cannon hatches. The Nikolaivorstadt , which lay outside the protective city wall and was itself insufficiently secured, stretched below the Zwinger . Zwinger and Hotherbastei therefore offered additional protection.
