Hound
Hound as part of the name stands in English for hunting dogs for the independent pursuit and tracking of game. A distinction is made between scenthounds [ to scent = smell, smell], which pursue their prey with the help of the sense of smell , and sighthounds [ to sight = to sight , observe], who hunt their prey by sight.
According to the Anglo-Saxon system of dog breeds, as practiced by the AKC and KC , for example , scenthounds and sighthounds are grouped together in the Hound Group . According to the FCI system, this corresponds roughly to groups 4, 6 and 10; In addition, some breeds from group 5 are also assigned to the hounds . According to the FCI system, most scenthounds can be assigned to either the running dogs or the sweathounds , and most sighthounds to the greyhounds .
Within the hunting dogs are hounds by Anglo-Saxon scheme of Gundogs and Sporting dogs delineate the hunter indicative of the position of the game (the Pointers ) and / or for retrieving be used scoring the prey ( Retrievers ).
