Joseph Howard "Rip" Riopelle (born January 30, 1922 in Ottawa , Ontario ; † September 22, 2013 ibid) was a Canadian ice hockey player and entrepreneur who, during his active career between 1940 and 1955, among other things, 177 games for the Canadiens de Montréal in of the National Hockey League .

Career

Riopelle spent his junior years in his native Ottawa and played there between 1936 and 1942 for numerous junior teams, including the Ottawa Lasalle and from 1938 to 1942 the Ottawa St. Pats in the Ottawa City Junior Hockey League.In addition, he played one in the 1940/51 season Game for the Ottawa Car Bombers in the Upper Ottawa Valley Hockey League .

Through his military service , the left winger was used in the 1942/43 season for the Royal Canadian Air Force teams in Toronto and in Arnprior in the 1943/44 season . Between 1944 and 1945 Riopelle paused due to his obligations with the ice hockey, before the 1945/46 season with the Montreal Royals committed. There he spent two seasons in the Ligue de hockey senior du Québec and won the Allan Cup with the team in 1947 .

Following this success, Riopelle moved to the National Hockey League for the Canadiens de Montréal . For the Franco-Canadians, the attacker ran for three game years and played 177 games during that time. Due to a back injury, he had to end his NHL career in the summer of 1950 and sat the following year completely. He then played after a transfer from 1951 to 1955 for the Ottawa Senators before ending his career.

Riopelle founded the company Riopelle Fabrics as early as 1950 and built up a successful company after he retired . He died on September 22, 2013 at the age of 91.
