Hoya gracilis is a plant of the genus of wax flowers ( Hoya ) of the subfamily of asclepiadoideae (Asclepiadoideae).

features

Hoya gracilis is a graceful epiphytic , climbing, twisting plant with thread-like, branched shoots. The sparsely leafed shoots are bare, flexible and occasionally have adherent roots. The spread, opposite leaves are short stalked, the thick petioles are 0.5 to 1 cm long. The thick leathery leaf blades are lanceolate-elliptical, 5.5 to 7.5 cm long and in the middle 1.8 to 2.3 cm wide. The top and bottom are bare. The base is wedge-shaped, the apex is pointed or somewhat blunt. The leaf veins are not prominent except for the midrib.

The umbel-shaped inflorescence consists of 20 to 30 flowers. The round inflorescence stalks are 4 to 6 cm long and glabrous. The very slender flower stalks are 1.2 to 2 cm long. The elongated sepals are about 1.5 mm long and bare on the outside, the apex is blunt. The corolla has a diameter of 0.7 cm and is red. The petals are less than half fused. The egg-shaped corolla lobes are 0.5 cm long and curved back, the apices are pointed short. They are bald on the outside, finely hairy papillae and downy. The secondary crown is red. The corolla lobes are spread out almost horizontally. Inner and outer processes rise. When viewed from above, they are elliptical-lanceolate, the inner process has short beaks. The anthers are only slightly shorter than the inner processes. The outer process is blunt. The anthers are trapezoidal with ovoid hyaline appendages. The Pollinia are slender, L / B ratio about 3: 1. The apex is rounded. The caudiculae are very short and thin, the corpusculum is very small and rhombic, without constriction and thorn-shaped processes. The stylus head is conical. The fruits are thin, spindle-shaped, 11 cm long and only 0.3 cm in diameter, the apex is beak-shaped.

Similar species

Hoya gracilis is similar to Hoya lacunosa but the leaves are longer and narrower and the corolla is different. Due to the somewhat uncertain origin of Hoya memoria , a possible synonymy of the two species was also discussed. However, pollinaries and side crowns of Hoya gracilis and Hoya memoria differ significantly.

Geographical distribution and habitat

Hoya gracilis was found blooming on the island of Talisso / Pulau Talisei off the north coast of Sulawesi ( Indonesia ) in June 1886. Simone Merdon-Bennack doubts the place of origin and suspects the Philippines to be her original home. Rudolf Schlechter described the species using herbarium material.

Taxonomy

The taxon was described in 1908 by Rudolf Schlechter using herbarium material. The whereabouts of the type is not known. The Plants of the World online database accepts the taxon as a valid species.

Hoya gracilis becomes the Acanthostemma Kloppenburg section within the genus Hoya R.Br .. Simone Merdon-Bennack lists Hoya memoria Kloppenburg (2004) under the synonyms . However, this Filipino species is accepted as a standalone species by Plants of the World online .
