Hoya glabra is a plant of the genus of wax flowers ( Hoya ) of the subfamily of asclepiadoideae (Asclepiadoideae).

features

Hoya glabra is an epiphytic , climbing, twining subshrub with thread-like, branched shoots. The sparsely leafed shoots are flexible and bare. The spread, opposite leaves are stalked, the thick petioles are 2.5 to 3.2 cm long. The leathery leaf blades are egg-shaped, 14 to 16 cm long and slightly below the center (closer to the stem) 7.5 to 9.5 cm wide. The largest leaf found so far was 22 cm long and 15 cm wide. The top and bottom are bare. The base is rounded, the apex gradually tapers to a point. The leaf nerve consists of three primary nerves, from which secondary nerves branch off.

The almost spherical inflorescence contains 15 to 25 flowers (25 to 30 flowers or 15 to 50 flowers). The thick inflorescence stalks are 5 to 6 cm long and glabrous. The very slender, bare flower stalks are 1.5 to 2 cm long. The egg-shaped sepals are about 2 mm long and bare on the outside. Only the edges are sparsely covered with cilia; the apex is blunt. The corolla has a diameter of 1 cm and is dull pink on the inside; it becomes darker towards the tips. The petals are fused in the basal half. The egg-shaped petal lobes are 0.5 cm long, the apices are pointed and curved. They are bald on the outside, only the apices are barely perceptible with downy hairs. The secondary crown is dark pink. The fleshy corolla lobes are spread almost horizontally. The inner extension is short and pointed, the outer extension is pointed. The anthers are trapezoidal with hyaline appendages. The pollinia are slender with a broad, hyaline outer edge. They narrow significantly to the caudiculae. The caudiculae are very short, the corpusculum is very small and rhombic. The stylus head is conical. The flowers do not smell and also no nectar. Somadee and Kühne, on the other hand, write: emits a lot of nectar . The flowers are only open for one day, the entire inflorescence fades in one night.

Similar Art

According to Schlechter, Hoya glabra is said to be closely related to Hoya latifolia Blume (recte G.Don).

Geographical distribution and habitat

The species occurs on Borneo in the Indonesian province of Kalimantan Timur . Further occurrences are known from the Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak . Plants of the World online also specifies Sumatra as a distribution area, Somadee and Kühne also name the Malay Peninsula .

It found it worse blooming on trees near Long-Wahau on Mahakam in August 1901. It is preferred to be found in partial shade at the forest edges of the rainforests.

Taxonomy

The taxon was described by Rudolf Schlechter in 1908 . The type is kept under the number Schlechter # 13458 in the herbarium of the Botanical Garden Berlin . Rodda designated this specimen as the lectotype. The Plants of the World online database accepts the taxon as a valid species.
