The Hraunsfjörður is a fjord in western Iceland . It is a branch of the Urtuvalafjörður fjord in Breiðafjörður .
The uninhabited fjord is on the north coast of the Snæfellsnes peninsula . The front part of the fjord is also called Seljafjörður. The Hraunsfjörður is east of Kolgrafafjörður and extends as a narrow arm towards the mountains, namely the Helgrindur with the volcanic system Lýsuskarð . In addition, the Berserkjahraun lava field extends into the fjord in some places. It originated from the neighboring Ljósufjöll volcanic system . Two trout fishing lakes are located in the highlands above the fjord: Hraunsfjarðarvatn and Baulárvallavatn.
The Snæfellsnesvegur has been crossing the fjord on dams and one 36 m since 1993. Before that, the road ran over a bridge Mjósund (= Eng. Narrow sound ). It was built in 1961 and was the oldest bridge that crossed a fjord in Iceland. Now the Berserkjahraunsvegur runs there .
