Lýsuskarð
The Lýsuskarð volcanic system is located in Iceland . It is roughly in the middle of the Snæfellsnes peninsula .
Characteristics
It stretches from the Tröllatindar to the mountain Búlandshöfði east of the fishing village Ólafsvík . The system formed the highest mountain peaks in the area and is oriented in the south from east to west, with a northern branch from southeast to northwest over the Helgrindur with the highest peak Kaldnasi , 988 m, to Búlandshöfði.
The system is about 30 km long and up to 5 km wide.
Central volcano and eruption history
This system also has a central volcano, which was particularly active in the period from 2 million years ago to 1 million years ago. However, there have also been two eruptions within the last 10,000 years. These were mainly eruptions that produced basaltic lava . And that includes the amazing lava falls on the south side of the Snæfellsnes peninsula z. B. at Staðarsveit .
