At 988 m, Kaldnasi is the highest mountain in the volcanic mountain range of Helgrindur and is located on the Snæfellsnes peninsula southwest of Grundarfjörður in Iceland .
Volcanism
The volcanic mountain range is one of the highest and most important mountain ranges on the Snæfellsnes peninsula. The central volcano of the Lýsuskarð volcanic system is also located here .
Weather sheath
The high mountains divide Snæfellsnes together with the other two main mountain ranges into two climatic zones, each of which belongs to Faxaflói Bay in the south and the large Breiðafjörður fjord in the north.
Notorious are the sharp fall winds that sweep down from these mountains in storms from the north or south on the leeward side.
Rockclimbing
Kaldnasi is popular with mountaineers.
You can z. B. from Kalfárvellir on the south side up to him.
