Hubert Berens (born May 6, 1936 in Suttrop ; † February 9, 2015 in Erlangen ) was a German mathematician who dealt with approximation theory and functional analysis .

After graduating from high school in Rüthen in 1957, Berens turned to studying mathematics at RWTH Aachen University , which he graduated with a diploma in 1962. In 1964 he received his doctorate there under Paul Leo Butzer (approximation theorems for semigroup operators in intermediate spaces). He then went to the University of California, Santa Barbara , and the University of Texas at Austin with George G. Lorentz . From 1973 until his retirement in 2001 he was a full professor at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg .

With his doctoral supervisor he wrote a monograph on semigroups of operators in the basic teaching series.
