history

The area of today's Suttrop, which was still called “Suth-Thorp” in the early days of the company, was settled as early as the Ice Age, as is attested by the finds of tools. Suttrop were in the 13th century not as the neighboring villages Warstein , Belecke , Kallenhardt and Rüthen the city rights awarded, but it remained a predominantly agricultural village, which was made up of many individual farms. Most of these settlements disappeared or became considerably smaller, only the settlement on Plasskamp developed into today's district. The church history of the place began with the construction of a chapel in 1322. The next milestone was the construction of a new church in 1710. In 1739 the first ironworks was built in the village , in 1881 work with blast furnaces was stopped and the business switched to iron processing. But the stone industry is also historically significant, as there are large limestone deposits in the immediate vicinity of the village (so-called Central Devonian mass limestone). The psychiatric facility built between 1903 and 1905, now known as the LWL-Klinik Warstein , at the exit of Warstein in the direction of Suttrop also brought many jobs . In 1907, Suttrop had grown significantly, the church was expanded.

From September 1944 the division staff of the V2 program was in Suttrop. Shortly before the end of the war , in March 1945, SS-Obergruppenführer Kammler ordered the liquidation of forced laborers to restore order . From March 21 to 23, 1945, 208 men, women and children were shot in three shootings in the Arnsberg Forest (including in Warstein and Suttrop).

After the last renovation in 1985/1986, the interior of the Suttrop Church was completely renovated and partially redesigned in 2017. With the municipal reorganization in 1975, the formerly independent municipality came to the city of Warstein . In 2007 and 2008 a historic lime kiln was built by the Heimatverein.
