Hubert Biernat
Hubert Biernat (born June 11, 1907 in Heeren ; † October 30, 1967 in Unna ) was a German politician ( SPD ). From 1950 to 1956 he was district president in Arnsberg and from 1956 to 1958 Minister of the Interior of North Rhine-Westphalia .
education and profession
After attending school, Biernat completed a commercial apprenticeship and attended the Administration Academy in Dortmund . He then worked as an accountant, advertising correspondent and operations manager as well as a commercial clerk. In June 1933 he emigrated to Belgium via the Netherlands, but returned to Germany in the autumn. In May 1940 he had to begin his military service, which he performed mainly in the office. In 1945 he became head of the Unna district agency of the Westfälische Rundschau and built up a newspaper distribution company as well as a book and magazine business.
politics
Biernat became a member of the SPD in 1926 and worked as an employee of the socialist daily newspaper Der Hammer. He became party secretary in 1945 and was a member of the SPD party council of North Rhine-Westphalia from 1957 to 1961. From 1946 to 1950 and from 1958 until his death he was a member of the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament. In 1947/48 he was a deputy member of the Zone Advisory Council for the British Zone of Occupation.
From 1946 to 1950 Biernat worked as a district administrator in the Unna district . From 1950 to 1956 he was the district president in Arnsberg. From February 1956 to July 1958 he was Minister of the Interior in the state government led by Prime Minister Fritz Steinhoff . After leaving the cabinet, he was again from 1961 to 1964 district administrator in the Unna district.
Honors
In 1963 he was awarded the Great Federal Cross of Merit with a shoulder ribbon and a star . In Bergkamen, Fröndenberg, Kamen-Heeren and Unna streets are named after him.
