life and work

Hubert Fröhlich was the German production manager for the anti-war film Sprengte Ketten (1962). Here he worked particularly closely with Robert Relyea and was able to ensure that everything ran smoothly at the German locations. Fröhlich is best known for his production management of the sixth James Bond film On Her Majesty's Secret Service , which he brought to Switzerland in 1968. He was commissioned by film producers Albert R. Broccoli and Harry Saltzman in January 1968 to find a suitable location for the Bond strip, which should have a cable car with a free-standing mountain station. The outdoor shots for the scenes set in Switzerland took place on the Schilthorn mountain (with the “ Piz Gloria ” summit restaurant still under construction ) and the cities of Lauterbrunnen , Mürren and Grindelwald .

In the 1960s, Fröhlich also worked as a production manager for German Jerry Cotton films. In 1970 Hubert Fröhlich was hired again by Robert Relyea as production manager. This time for the Steve McQueen film "Le Mans". Hubert Fröhlich remained closely connected to a location for "On Her Majesty's Secret Service", namely Mürren in Switzerland. The place became his second home. Hubert Fröhlich died in Mürren after a serious cancer illness. His grave is located in the Lauterbrunnen / Switzerland cemetery and is still tended by some fans to this day.

Quotes

“Sometimes it was almost military, but it had to be that way to run smoothly. I learned how important detailed planning is. "
