Mürren , in the local dialect Mirren, is a village in the Bernese Oberland in Switzerland . It is car-free and is 1650 m above sea level. Its also car-free neighboring town of Gimmelwald is 2.3 kilometers to the south. From Mürren you have a good view of the Eiger , Mönch and Jungfrau . The place is a good starting point for hikes in summer and a well-developed winter sports area with the steepest ski slope in the region. 429 residents are at home here; the hotel capacity is 2000 beds for guests.
Also known is the Schilthorn with its Piz Gloria revolving restaurant , where the Bond film On Her Majesty's Secret Service was filmed.

history
Mürren was settled like Lauterbrunnen, but in contrast to the rest of the Bernese Oberland from the Valais and was first documented as a mudslide in 1257 . In 1345 it was called Murn . The barons of Wädenswil had rights to the land and people here. In 1275 the whole thing fell to Peter vom Thurn and then to the Interlaken Monastery .
Mürren hosted the Alpine World Ski Championships in 1931 and 1935 . The longest downhill ski race in the world for professionals and amateurs, the Inferno Race, takes place in Mürren every winter . Every year in August, Mürren is also the venue for the famous Inferno Triathlon , which ends on the Schilthorn .
