During and after the Second World War , Meingast founded in collaboration with Dr. Paul Riebensahm from the Technical University of Berlin two research institutes in the field of heat treatment of metals, the Working Group on Heat Treatment and Materials Technology in Bremen and the Institute for Hardening Technology (IHT in Bremen, today Institute for Materials Technology IWT).

Meingast held seminars at these institutes and also wrote research papers. One of them contained ideas that were rated positively by leading engineers even after his death in 1961. His ideas and suggestions were often far ahead of their time, and his work - especially from 1942 to 1950 - was in part groundbreaking.

In 1952 Meingast emigrated to Canada to work for the Cockshutt Farm Equipment Company in Brantford , Ontario . In 1957 he was Vice President of the Harold Jones Machine Company in Thornbury . During this time he also worked as a specialist advisor for various South African mining companies. When he became a co-owner of Harold Jones Machine Company in 1958 , the company's name changed to JMG (Jones, Meingast, Gardner), which later became Teledyne . Teledyne manufactured equipment for the mining industry. It still operates under BTI - Breaker Technology Inc. in Thornbury.

In 1959, Meingast founded his own hydraulic technology company, HM Meingast & Sons Ltd. in Owen Sound , Ontario. It was bought by the Parker-Hannifin company in 1965 , but closed its doors in 2006.

Hubert M. Meingast died of lung cancer on August 29, 1961 .
