Hubert Titlbach

Hubert Titlbach (born February 18, 1813 in Rudig , † November 3, 1890 in Saaz ) was a Bohemian doctor, mayor of the city of Saaz and member of the state parliament.

Life

Titlbach was born in Rudig as the son of the middle-class glove maker Jakob Titlbach and his wife Elisabetha Hampl. The Titlbach family was one of the oldest families in the city and produced several mayors. His father was mayor of his hometown for several years. His nephew was the kk general Karl Fanta (1851-1937).

He graduated from high school in Saaz and Prague in 1831 and studied medicine at Charles University . On November 10, 1839, Titlbach obtained his doctorate in medicine and settled in Saaz as a doctor. In 1861 he was elected to the city council and later to the city council. After the previous mayor Theodor Ritter von Schönfeld fell ill in 1878, Titlbach took care of the official business. After Schönfeld's death in 1879, he was elected mayor and held this office for three terms until 1887. His term of office included the construction of the city orphanage and the elementary and community school. For the former, he had laid the foundation with a substantial financial contribution.

In 1880 he was elected as a member of parliament in Saaz and Kaaden. As a member of the state parliament for the electoral district of Saaz-Postelberg, Titlbach campaigned for the Saaz high school to be maintained as a state institution. From 1881 onwards he campaigned for the improvement of the medical system in Bohemia. In 1888 there was finally a reorganization and reform. For his services he was granted honorary citizenship on May 19, 1886 by the city of Saaz. He was also the bearer of the Knight's Cross of the Franz Joseph Order. In 1890 Constantin Ritter von Schönfeld was elected to the state parliament as Titlbach's successor. Titlbach was buried in Saaz in 1890 with great sympathy from the population.
