Karl Borromäus Joseph Julius Wenzl Fanta (born August 12, 1851 in Saaz , † April 11, 1937 ) was an Austrian general and commander of the fortresses of Zara and Ragusa .

Life

Fanta was born in 1851 as the son of the Imperial and Royal Captain and later Major Karl Fanta and his wife Anna Fritsch. The maternal grandmother Agatha Fritsch nee Titlbach was an aunt of the Saaz mayor and member of the state parliament, Hubert Titlbach .

After attending school, he entered military service as a cadet . At the age of 21 he was promoted to lieutenant and served in the general staff from 1888. For his work he was promoted and awarded several times within a short period of time. In his hometown of Saaz he took over the patronage of the newly founded military association Saaz. In 1909 Fanta became regimental commander of Zara. In 1911 he, meanwhile commanding general of the fortress Ragusa, took a longer vacation and finally allowed himself to be retired. His request was granted by Emperor Franz Joseph I and as a sign of recognition he was awarded the Order of the Iron Crown, 1st class .

Fanta died in 1937 and was buried in the Saaz cemetery. The grave still exists.
