Hubertus Ernst (born December 26, 1938 in Coburg ; † April 11, 2016 there ) was a German entrepreneur and rally driver .

Life

Master mechanic Hubertus Ernst began his work in 1964 in the Coburg car workshop of his father Willy Ernst. Before that he had already worked in Hanover and Andernach for some time . Four years later he took over the management of the company. In the years that followed, Hubertus Ernst was able to significantly enlarge the company and develop it into a modern car dealership through commitment, fresh ideas and acquisitions of old factory premises. In addition, he was enthusiastic about motorsport and became a member of the MSC, Motor-Sport-Club Coburg e. V., of which he was first chairman from 1971 to 1983 with a short interruption. In 1969 he took part in the first German auto-cross with foreign participation in Hersbruck and took fourth place. In 1969 and 1971 Ernst was Bavarian champion in the car class in autocross. In the 1970s, Hubertus Ernst was a successful national and international rally driver, taking part in over 250 rally events and becoming Bavarian rally and racing champion in 1972. For this he received the honor of the city of Coburg in the following year: Sportsman of the city of Coburg . In 1971 Ernst organized the first autocross race in Coburg. Furthermore, Hubertus Ernst made an outstanding contribution as one of the co-organizers of the annual Coburg Oldtimer and Youngtimer meeting organized by MSC Coburg . These meetings are known far beyond the region. Not only do participants come regularly with their historic vehicles and motorcycles from all over Bavaria, but also predominantly from southern Germany and Thuringia.

In addition, Hubertus Ernst was known for his work and his longstanding membership in the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Coburg . From 1987 to 2003 he was a member of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce plenary assembly and from 1987 to 1994 he worked on the retail committee of the Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member of the IHK examination committee for 15 years. His services to the examination system of the vocational training of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Coburg were honored with the Silver Medal of Honor of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce. In addition, Hubertus Ernst was a long-standing and deserving member of several clubs; for details see under clubs .
