Hubertus of Gemmingen

Hubertus von Gemmingen (born June 26, 1945 in Wentorf near Hamburg ) is a German editor , translator and author of writings on art and cultural history .

Life

He is a son of Sigmund Reinhard von Gemmingen (1907–1952) and Ingeborg Wendroth-Sielcken (1906–1976). He comes from the Treschklingen line of the Barons of Gemmingen , his grandfather was the Württemberg officer and chamberlain Gustav Sigmund Reinhard von Gemmingen (1871-1943). He is a cousin of the former German editor-in-chief of Radio Vatican, Eberhard von Gemmingen .

He studied German, philosophy, art history and journalism in Zurich and Freiburg. His dissertation from 1976 dealt with Paul Scheerbart's astral literature. After completing his studies, he was an editor at an art book publisher and has been a freelance translator since 1988, translating works on art and cultural history as well as architecture from French. In addition to his translations, he also made his own contributions to art and cultural history. He lives in Villars-sur-Glâne in Switzerland. He is the editor of the German Historical Research Association of the Canton of Friborg , co-editor of the publications of the Swiss Society for History and a member of the Culture Commission of the Agglomeration and the Commission for Cultural Affairs of the Canton of Friborg .
