history

Founded until World War II

Hudora building 1919

Hudora was founded on August 4th, 1919 by Hugo Dornseif as an ice skate factory. One of the company's first successes was the production of a one-piece ice skate in 1926. This enabled the company to advance into the professional sector and equip top athletes, world champions and Olympic champions. Soon after, the manufacture of roller skates was started, which accelerated the growth even more. In the 20s, HUDORA sold ice skates all over Europe. In the 1930s, the brand equipped various medalists in figure skating , such as pair skaters Maxi Herber and Ernst Baier .

post war period

After the Second World War, Hudora, like other companies, was dismantled by the Allies and some of the machines were removed. Another turning point was the death of company founder Hugo Dornseif in 1950. The economic miracle years also brought Hudora more and more success. The trend, which began in 1956, was closely linked to new products such as sliding skates and roller skates with rubber rollers. Hudora also developed the K50 roller skate.

Roller and figure skaters equipped by Hudora won world titles, including pair skaters Marika Kilius and Hans-Jürgen Bäumler . Until the 1990s, Hudora remained the supplier of top figure skating athletes , such as Manfred Schnelldorfer , Gabriele Seyfert , Rudi Cerne , Dagmar Lurz , Norbert Schramm and Katarina Witt .

1968 founding grandson Eike Dornseif joined the management of Hudora. He was the first in Germany to advocate standardization of roller and ice skates according to DIN. The close international competition meant that the economic pressure increased and the manufacturing location Germany was difficult for Hudora to keep. The company therefore established contacts in what was then the "Eastern Bloc" and initially bought leather boots for ice skates, and later also for scooter boots.

In 1980 the Hudora factory Hugo Dornseif became Hudora GmbH. Evelyn Dornseif took over the management. She is involved in the region in the Bergische IHK in Wuppertal.

Eighties until today

In 1984 the production in Radevormwald was stopped. At the same time, Hudora entered into a cooperation with the largest ice skate manufacturer in the world: SLM, St. Lawrence Manufacturing Company, Quebec, Canada. New trend sports products such as scooters, skateboards and inline skates expanded the range, and Hudora also concluded cooperation partnerships in the Far East. In 1998 the company gave up the location in Radevormwald and relocated the company headquarters to a new building in Remscheid. With the inline skates boom at the turn of the millennium, sales in trend sport began to grow significantly: Between 2000 and 2002, Hudora brought almost 1 million inline skates onto the market each year, more than any other manufacturer in Germany.

At the same time, the scooter began to conquer the market, and Hudora also became the leader in this segment thanks to a lock for the “Hudora Big Wheel” newly designed at the University of Wuppertal. This was accompanied by a fundamental change in the company's orientation: Instead of producing roller and sliding sports articles for competitive sports , Hudora now offered sports and leisure equipment for the whole family and all age groups under the slogan We move people . Since then, not only has the product range expanded continuously, the company's sales and employees have also grown steadily and the internationalization of the brand has progressed.

In 2007 the subsidiary Hudora Asia Ltd. based in Hong Kong. In the same year, Dr. Maximillian Dornseif, son of Eike and Evelyn Dornseif, managing director of Hudora GmbH. With him, the fourth generation of the Dornseif family is now active in the management of the company. Dr. Dornseif began to adapt the company to IT-based corporate processes.
