Hufenitz (desert)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hufenitz is a desert in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland , about 30 kilometers southeast of Szczecin .

The village of Hufenitz emerged from the village of Groß Küssow in the 19th century . When the landlord and farming conditions (see: Prussian Agricultural Constitution ) were regulated in Groß Küssow in 1823, the farmers of Groß Küssow were relocated to a new settlement. In Groß Küssow itself, the manor remained with the estate staff. This new settlement was southeast of Groß Küssow near the neighboring village of Damnitz .

The new settlement was initially called Neu-Küssow . In 1834 it was named Hufenitz, after the nearby river Hufnitz (also spelled Hufenitz).

In Heinrich Berghaus ' Landbuch des Herzogtums Pommern (1868) Hufenitz appeared as a new village among the localities in the knightly district of Pyritz. At that time Hufenitz had 42 inhabitants. There were seven farms, including a double farm. Hufenitz was parish and schooled in Groß Küssow.

In the period 1903/1908 Hufenitz, which had only 26 inhabitants in 1895, was incorporated into Damnitz. Until 1945 Hufenitz belonged as part of the Damnitz municipality to the Pyritz district of the Prussian province of Pomerania .

After the Second World War, Hufenitz, like all of Western Pomerania, came to Poland. Today the place is desolate. It is located on the edge of the site of a former military airfield, which has now been incorporated into the municipality of Stargard .
