Life

Dietschi, son of the editor and politician Peter Dietschi and grandson of Jakob Benedikt Schmid , attended high school in Solothurn, followed by law studies in Strasbourg, Heidelberg, Berlin and Bern (1888 Dr. iur.). In 1890 he received the Solothurn advocacy and notarial patent.

From 1891 to 1917 he ran a law firm in Olten and was Mayor of Olten from 1902 to 1933 (from 1917 in full office). From 1900 to 1933 he was a free-spirited Solothurn Cantonal Councilor (1905 President) and from 1922 to 1937 a Council of States. In 1898, the committed cultural politician initiated the city library in Olten, the Historical Museum in 1900 and the Art Association in 1914. Dietschi was married twice: first with Hedwig Büttiker, daughter of Arnold, baker and landlord, and then with Emma Bachmann, daughter of Jakob, von Gibstorf. The printer and castle explorer Eugen Dietschi-Kunz was his brother, the journalist and politician Eugen Dietschi his nephew. His son Urs Dietschi (1901–1982) also became a politician.
