Peter Dietschi (politician)

Peter Dietschi (born February 3, 1830 in Lostorf ; † January 9, 1907 in Olten ) was a Swiss editor , publisher and politician ( FDP ).

Life

The son of a Sigrist graduated from the Solothurn Cantonal School and studied ancient languages, history and philosophy at the universities of Zurich , Lausanne , Göttingen and Berlin . From 1855 to 1870 Dietschi taught Greek at the Solothurn Cantonal School. In 1869 he founded the Volksblatt vom Jura in Olten as an opposition paper against the cantonal government and in 1878 the Oltner Tagblatt as an organ of the Liberal Democratic Party , which he headed as publisher and editor until his death.

From 1873 to 1896 Dietschi was a free-spirited Solothurn cantonal councilor . In 1872 he was also involved in the founding of the Christian Catholic Church in Switzerland and in 1873 he founded the Katholische Blätter as a Christian Catholic church newspaper. From 1884 to 1907 he presided over the Synodal Council of the Christian Catholic Church.

The printer and castle historian Eugen Dietschi-Kunz (1861–1951) and the politician Hugo Dietschi (1864–1955) were his sons.
