Hugo II (Burgundy)

Hugo II called the peaceable ( French Hugues II le Pacifique , * probably 1085; † 1143 probably shortly after February 6th) was Duke of Burgundy from 1103 to 1143.

He was the son and heir of Duke Odo I and the Sibyl of Burgundy . He took over the reign of the duchy as early as 1101 when his father embarked on the 1101 crusade . When his father died in the course of the crusade, he succeeded him as duke.

He fought under King Ludwig VI in 1109 . against the English King Henry I , then against Emperor Henry V , who invaded Champagne in 1124 .

Beyond these two episodes, which also took place outside of his duchy, there was little conflict in his domain, which earned him his nickname.

He married Mathilde de Mayenne († after 1162) ( House Mayenne ) around 1115 , with her he had the following children:
