Hugo Jahns

Hugo Jahns (born November 3, 1931 in Demmin ; †  January 9, 2015 in Berlin ) was a German musician and choirmaster who became known through the omnibus choir he founded.

Life

Hugo Jahns completed a music degree at the Hanns Eisler Music Academy . In 1963 he founded the Paul Robeson Choir , of which he remained director for eleven years. In 1975 Hugo Jahns founded the Omnibus Choir in the House of Young Talents in Berlin , which was officially called the Omnibus Pioneer Choir . In the same year the group Vocal was formed under the artistic direction of Hugo Jahns . His life's work was the omnibus choir , whose artistic director he also remained when it no longer received state support after 1990 and the choir work was maintained by a specially founded association and sponsors. At the end of the 1990s, contrary to promises by the Senate Cultural Administration, the choir was given notice after more than 20 years of rehearsal rooms in the House of Young Talents , which was now called Podewil . The omnibus choir found a new domicile in the parish hall of the Parochialkirche . Since 1990 Hugo Jahns has composed and written numerous songs and arranged traditionals for the choir. In 2006 Hugo Jahns founded the vocal group Die Gospel-Oldies Berlin with former singers from the Paul Robeson Choir . In 2013, at the age of 82, he took part in the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the Paul Robeson Choir .

Hugo Jahns married his longtime partner Bärbel Plöckinger, with whom he has a son.

Appreciation

In 2000 Hugo Jahns received the silver badge of honor from the Landesmusikrat Berlin for special commitment to strengthening music and education .
