When he returned to his hometown, he was promoted to Dr. jur. PhD. In 1868 he was appointed associate professor for German law at the University of Vienna ; In 1874 he was transferred to the University of Prague and at the same time was appointed full professor of German law and constitutional law. In the winter semester 1876/77 (again 1886/87) he was dean of the law faculty. He was elected rector of the university for the winter semester of 1880/81. As the holder of this office, he was also a member of the Bohemian Landtag . To maintain its efforts, the University of Prague in the then existing state of the law, were not crowned with success, because even a year after its Rector, the government decided in Vienna in 1882, the old, venerable University of Prague in a German Karl-Ferdinand University and a Charles Ferdinand Bohemian University to share. He tried to expand the university and to strengthen its German character. In addition, he took on several honorary posts in Prague, which were aimed at preserving Germanism in the city.
